Our garden looks marvellous in June - there are peonies as big as your head (in hot pink, baby pink, velvety burgundy), climbing roses putting on the most outrageously confident display, lavender softening the topiary, parties of foxgloves popping up everywhere and zesty green alchemilla providing the perfect backdrop and making everyone else look even more fabulous.
I’m very flower focused at the moment - I want hang out with them in the garden, I want to bring them them inside and display them in tiny vases and huge flamboyant arrangements. I want to stare at floral wallpaper and eat my breakfast out of ditsy printed bowls. I want to press them and transform them into beautiful artwork, preserving them in case we ever leave our garden.
Last week I wrote a shopping feature for the Telegraph on the best floral homeware and it was a total joy searching for products - if I had to pick favourites from the edit, it would have to be this lacquered tray and this jolly print from artist, Lucy Mahon.
I’m in the mood to spread more floral joy this week so this edit incudes more ways to fill your home with flowers. Whether you want to arrange them, read about them or simply spy them on your crockery, these are my top shopping picks this week:
1. Harriet Watson Floral card, from £2.75
I occasionally buy cards just for myself, to prop up on my desk, or to display on the mantelpiece in our bedroom. I spotted Harriet Watson’s beautiful floral illustrations this week on Holly.co and I think they are delightful. I would find them hard to give away!
2. The Flower Hunter, by Lucy Hunter, £35
My husband bought me Lucy Hunter’s book for my birthday this year - it is a few years old but I’d never come across it before and I have found it so inspiring. I sat in bed with a cup of tea on Sunday morning last week and devoured it. I’m now after a cast iron urn like hers, to have permanently in our hallway, where I can display whatever is currently in the garden.
3. Large flower frog, £27
Still on the theme of arranging your flowers, I have been meaning to get hold of one of these Kenzan flower frog from Pascale for months. It helps to secure your flowers and foliage and means you can be more precise about how your blooms are placed.
4. Lucie de Moyencourt Pitcher, £42
Lovely flower arrangements start with a great jug - there are obviously no rules for what constitutes a great jug, but I think their sculptural form is worth thinking about. This Pitcher by Lucie de Moyencourt from Anthropologie is a particularly striking and unusual shape - a great base for an arrangement.
5. Cherry Blossom Coffee Cup, £20
I love these coffee cups from Becky Mackenzie Ceramics, made from white porcelain and decorated with a Japanese Cherry blossom motif. So delicate, and perfect for elevating your morning coffee ritual.
6. Blue Vine Napkin, £15
There is no shortage of beautiful napkins at the moment, but I do like these ones from Shades of Cool (a lovely brand btw, sustainably made in India), with their hand-painted vine design. So fresh and summery.
7. Tulip platter, 160,00 €
I can’t resist a good platter and I’ve got my beady eye on this one, from Laetitia Rouget. It comes in other colourways too, but I love how great the lemons look with it!
The Frill’s find of the week
I’m planning to start The Frill Vintage Edit - mini drops of lovely vintage finds - coming soon! I was over the moon when I found this little 1930s Crown Devon ‘Garden Path’ hors d’oevre dish (I’ve also seen this referred to as a biscuit dish which is adorable - chuck me the bourbons and the custard creams please). I feel that everyone needs a collection of compartment-style vintage platters. Perfect for olives or a fancy picky tea for the kids.
PRIZE DRAW REMINDER
Last week I announced The Frill’s first prize draw. One lucky subscriber will win a beautiful pillarbox red Falcon enamelware teapot. To enter, all you need to do is subscribe (and have a UK postal address). You have until midnight on Thursday 19th of June to enter and the winner will be drawn on Friday 20th June.
Brilliant as ever ! I want a big urn too - race you for one ! My mum says she used to have one but just left it in the local church once !
Your peonies are incredible. Love that little coffee cup too.
